    The bank handled most of the government payroll, including salaries for policemen and teachers.

    But in fact this was a sham, reports our correspondent, as its main purpose appears to have been to ferry hundreds of millions of dollars out of Afghanistan.

    A report by an independent auditor leaked in November 2012 showed that the vast majority of the bank's loans - almost $900m (£561m) - were made to just 19 people and companies.

    An earlier finding by Afghanistan's anti-corruption office said that $467m (£290m) of outstanding loans had been made without appropriate collateral.

    Our correspondent says that much of the stolen money is unlikely to be recovered.

    According to the project proposal, the pipeline will begin from Iran's Assalouyeh Energy Zone in the south and stretch over 1,100 km through Iran. In Pakistan, it will pass through Baluchistan and Sindh but officials now say the route may be changed if China agrees to the project.

    Foxconn, the Taiwan-based electronics manufacturing giant frequently criticized for poor working conditions, has reportedly begun replacing its factory workers with robots.

    After a rash of worker suicides at Foxconn factories in China, the manufacturer of hardware for Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and Sony announced its intention last year to replace some of its workers with robots. Terry Gou, founder and chairman of the company, told employees at a dance in July 2011 that the move was designed to improve efficiency and combat rising labor costs.

    The first batch of 10,000 robots -- nicknamed "Foxbots" -- have arrived in at least one Foxconn factory, with another 20,000 due by the end of the year, according to a Singularity Hub post. The robots cost between $20,000 and $25,000 apiece to produce -- about three times the average annual salary of Foxconn's factory workers, according to a report on the Chinese Web site TechWeb.

    As manufacturers get ready to market robots for the home it has become essential for them to overcome the public's suspicion of them. But designing a robot that is fun to be with - as well as useful and safe - is quite difficult.

    Roboy's main technical innovation is a tendon-driven design that mimics the human muscular system. Instead of whirring motors in the joints like most robots, he has around 70 imitation muscles, each containing motors that wind interconnecting tendons. Consequently, his movements will be much smoother and less robotic.

    WikiLeaks emphasizes that one of the Stratfor reports, Stratfor is recognized as a private version of the CIA, offered an analysis dedicated to multinational corporations seeking to invest in the South American nation.

    The emails filtered by WikiLeaks showed that the motivations for the company were far from being independent and that it was working as an intelligence agency and providing strategies for those seeking intervention in Venezuela.

    Stratfor and Canvas focused, according to the WikiLeaks revelations, on the energy and petrochemical sector, political change, state of the counterrevolutionary forces and the state of the military forces.

    Both companies also made mention of the relationship between Venezuela and Cuba, China, Russia and Iran, showing the desperation of U.S. officials at the advance of President Hugo Chavez's alliances with other nations.
