    · So where from it started ???? [character P- 2ND(IT) M- 4TH(PRINTING) A-4TH(CONSTRUCTION)

    P- a 2nd year (IT student) was keeping some 1st year students in the hostel ILLEGALLY(Against existing rules and regulation) .Especially the 1st year students are forbidden to stay in saltlake campus hostel seniors till mahalaya by the hostel officials.

    Watching this a 4thyear Printing Engineering Student M [who was also the ANTI RAGGING SQUAD MEMBER OF THE HOSTEL (2012-2013)]warned him that he was not allowed to do that and should ask those first year students to leave hostel . ‘P’ turned deaf ears to the warning . ‘M’ told the hostel security about the matter and the first years were asked to leave.

    Next the window pane of‘P’ got broken . But as of now no investigation could lead to any result as to who broke it. ‘P’ confidently accused ‘M’ of the action and a Hostel meeting was immediately called in by theoffice bearer (AGS)of Saltlake Campus..

    23.8.2013: (in the hostel meeting at night) There as soon as ‘M’ came , ‘P’ aggressively tried to rage against ‘M’ . Other students stopped him.. He continued- “agar ma ka dudh piya hai .. toh samne aa” and then went on hurling abuses. And the process of mutual exchange of abuses went on . ‘A’ (a final year construction ) student ,slapped ‘P’ all of a sudden, unable to tolerate anymore ‘nuisance’ . And thenhe immediately apologised . Later that night the entire “COMMOTION” got solved and everybody yet again got to be in good terms with each other ..

    24.8.2013: the second year IT student , found excreta , in front of his room.

    25.8.2013 (Sunday): the 2nd year student lodged a ragging complaint to UGC against ‘M’ and ‘A’.

    26.8.2013: University Authority , did not convey the “ragging”complaint to the Anti Ragging Committee (The highest decision making body in this sort of issues ). Instead it for meda Fact Finding Committee , with everything confidential and keeping everyone in the dark.

    Prof.Partha Ghosh(Construction Dept) called ‘A’ and ‘M’ that day and initiated a conversation on a very normal note , so did Prof. Bivas Dam , Dean Of Students Rajat Roy and three other persons present.

    They did not mention anything about any Ragging Complaint lodged , they did not reveal their identity as partof the committee either . After hearing what happened from ‘M’ and ‘A’ , they asked them to give a written , told them nothing would happen , and agreeing to the fact that it was a commotion , asked the two students to resolve the issues amongst themselves.

    ‘M’ &’A’ submitted a written about what happened with complete honesty .

    However no such confession that , ‘M’ broke the window pane of ‘ P’ or left excreta in front of his room was made , as they asserted that they have done nothing of that sort. ‘A’ – asserted that he Slapped ‘P’ at the heat of the moment , but it was never out of seeking pleasure . He was provoked and irritated by the terrible abuses hurled by ‘P’. But he immediately apologised ‘P’ ofhis action .

    10.9.2013: An antiragging committee meeting was called in . The agenda was not known to any of the members apart from those who belonged to the fact finding committee . In the meeting , the facts were put forward , and all the members for the first time got acquainted with what happened. A decision of expelling the two accused students from hostel permanently and rusticating ‘A’(for two semesters) & ‘M’(for one semester) was made. The Student Representatives of FETSU (member of anti ragging committee) vehemently opposed the decision as the investigation procedure carried out was very much questionable and all of the members of anti ragging committee were kept in dark about the entire incident. The committee members was also not given a chance to speak with the victims and the accused. Based on the facts found viz “the window pane was broken” (and the agent was still not found) , ‘M’ slapped ‘P’(under what circumstances ??) , it was not judicious to come to a decision of ‘ragging’ , or whether even if it was a case of ragging still needed some more questions to be answered. The investigation was carried out very fast and was incomplete. Other student members present in the committee meeting stayed neutral as they were also unaware of what happened and were communicated with the event for the first time in the anti ragging committee meeting(10.9.2013) only.

    Later that night the accused students also got to know for the first time, that a ragging complaint was lodged against them by ‘P’ and they were going to be expelled and rusticated .

    11.9.2013: The ‘incident’ and the ‘consequences’ were flashed in the news channels allover and the media driven by their preconceived notions , highlighted it accordingly. The two accused students were asked to show cause by the authority. (after the decision was taken)

    12.9.2013: The students of faculty of engineering and technology approached PRO VC and DEAN via FETSU (Faculty of engineering and technology students’ union) in Saltlake Campus.

    FETSU DEMAND : “Sir We are against Ragging !! But we believe ,this case is not an issue of ‘ragging’. The entire investigation procedure has been carried out stealthily without even communicating the members of anti ragging committee. It lacks transparency and we want the authority to call another anti ragging committee meeting where this event may be revisited , re investigated properly and rediscussed. Till then any decision made be withheld and not implemented. “

    Authority: Yes your demand is logical.. we will be discussing with vc over the matter.

    16.9.2013: The students approached VC with the same demands.

    Authority: Of course we have decided to rediscusson the matter and look into it with a pro student Spirit. We will let you knowon 18.9.2013 . Decisions already formed won’t be implemented or any progress onthe same won’t be made till 18.9.2013 meeting .

    18.9.2013: The students approached VC yet again but this time..

    Authority: No no ..We won’t be revisiting the matter. It has already been reported to the UGC (something not told to the students till 17.9.2013 by the authority).Also it has already been flashed in the media. Its not possible to call another antiragging committee meeting and reinvestigate. It will hamper university status. Those two students will have to deal with it accordingly.

    জানলার কাঁচ ভাঙা আর দরজার সামনে গু রাখা - সিনিয়রদের কেউ বা কেউ কেউ করেছে বলেই মনে হয়, কিন্তু প্রমাণ পাওয়া মুশকিল। প্রমাণ না পাওয়া পর্যন্ত শাস্তি হতে পরে থ্রেট করা, চড় মারা এইসবের জন্য -এগুলো আবার, যা বুঝলাম, প্রফ-রা সত্য গোপন করে সিনিয়র ছেলেদুটি-কে দিয়ে লিখিয়ে নিয়েছেন।

    ১। প্রিতমকে আগে চড় মারা হয়েছিল। মেরেছিল সিনিয়ার।

    এগুলোকে ragging বা bullying হিসেবে ধরা যেতেই পারে। অবশ্য সুইত্জারল্যান্ড থেকে আবার কি বলা হবে জানিনা। Swarnendu কি বেশী না হাঁপিয়ে আরেকটা ISD কল করবেন?

    করছিই দাদা রোজই, শেষেরটা বাদে বাকিগুলো তো আমার তথ্য ও তাই বলেছিল, আমিও তাই বলে ছিলাম। শেষেরটা ঘটেছে না ঘটেনি তাই নিয়ে আন্দোলনকারী ছাত্রছাত্রীদের মধ্যেই ঐক্যমত নেই এইটে বুঝতে পারিনি......। দেখলুম, তবে শুভম-এর ভারশান অবিশ্বাস করার কোন কারণ তো দেখছিনা, so I concede.
    "নীল মণ্ডলের ভার্শন মানলে" - এইটা নিয়ে শুধু একটাই কথা, নীল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং ছেড়েছে ২০০৭ এ, তারপর কয়েক বছর চাকরি করে এখন আর্টসে ভরতি হয়েছে, কম্পারেটিভ লিটারেচার না ফিল্ম স্টাডিস, কোন একটায়, কোনটা মনে নেই... ফলত আমার শোনা একটা ভারশান , a x এর শোনা একটা ভারশান এর মত নীলের ও তো তাইই। বরং শুভম এখন ইঞ্জিনীয়ারিং এরই ছাত্র, ঘোড়া যখন আছেই ঘোড়ার মুখেরটাকেই আপাতত ছাত্রদের ভারশান বলে ধরে নেওয়া যাক না, অন্তত যতক্ষণ অবধি উন্নততর ঘোড়া না জুটছে।

    আর হ্যাঁ,
    আমার কথায় জনতা ক্ষুব্ধ ও আহত হয়েছে বুঝতে পারলাম, সে নিয়ে ডিফেন্ড করার কিছু নেই, আমি এজন্য একান্তভাবেই দুঃখিত... কাউকে আঘাত করার ইচ্ছা আমার আদপেই ছিল না। নিজগুণে ক্ষমা করে দিলে আন্তরিকভাবে খুশি হব।
    তবে এলিটিজম এর যে অভিযোগ আমার বিরুদ্ধে উঠেছে, তাই নিয়ে আমার আত্মপক্ষ সমর্থনে কিছু বলার রইল... সে পরে বলব।

    আর হ্যাঁ, আমি কাউকেই বোকা বলতে চাইনি, বলিওনি । Institution এ অচলা ভক্তির সমালোচনা করছিলাম, আর সেটা বুদ্ধিমান লোকের ক্ষেত্রেই প্রযোজ্য। বোকা লোকে তুকতাকেও বিশ্বাস করে, খবরের কাগজ এ তো তার নিঃসংশয় বিশ্বাস থাকাই স্বাভাবিক।
    আমার পাড়ায় যে রিকশাওয়ালা রোজ সকালে রিকশা নিয়ে বেরিয়ে সেন্ট্রাল অ্যাভেন্যু পার হওয়ার পথে লাল মন্দিরটার গায়ে মাথা ঠুকে যায়, তাকে সমালোচনা করার আমার অধিকারই নেই, কিন্তু যে কোয়ান্টাম ফিল্ড থিয়োরির পি.এইচ.ডি রাস্তাটা পার হওয়ার সময় তর্জনীটা একবার নাকের গোড়ায় আর ঠোঁটে ঠেকিয়ে যায় তাকেই করি। সিপিয়েম যখন লেখে "মার্ক্সবাদ সত্য কারণ ইহা বিজ্ঞান" তাতে সমালোচনা করব কেন? কোন বামপন্থী এ জাতীয় কথা বলছে দেখলে তখনি কিছু বলার প্রশ্ন।
    আর না, এর পর থেকে http দিয়ে শুরু নয় এমন কিচ্ছুটি লিখব না কো, রোবুবাবু প্রমিস ( মাজন নয়)। :)

    Our MOVEMENT IS NOT AGAINST THE 'VICTIM'.
    The spirit of movement is anti authoritarian not communal.

    If someone OPPOSES SUBBA FROM CHAUVINIST POINT OF VIEW.
    We also OPPOSE that 'SOMEONE '

    BOTH 'VICTIM' and 'Accused ' Happen to be the part of FETSU Family .

    The only demand is to REINVESTIGATE the Case by calling another anti ragging committee meeting ! as the investigation is very much incomplete and questionable .

  • আশির দশকে মেন হস্টেলে সিট পাওয়া যেত না বলে ক্যালকাটা মেডিকাল কলেজের কিছু ছাত্র একটা বিল্ডিং অধিকার করে থাকতে শুরু করে - সেটার নাম ছিল জবরদখল হস্টেল।
    এই প্রীতম ছেলেটি পাহাড়ের কিছু ছাত্রকে নিজের ঘরে থাকতে দিয়ে সাহায্য করেছে, ব্যাপারটা বেআইনী, অথরিটি বুঝুক, সিনিয়র স্টুডেন্ট-দের তাই নিয়ে মাথাব্যথা কেন?

    এইটা আর আগের বছর এই 'victim' ছেলেটি একজন ফাইনাল ইয়ারের ছেলেকে মেরে নাক ফাটিয়ে দিয়েছিল, এই দুটো তথ্যের কিছু বোঝা যাচ্ছে না, কেউ ই বলতে পারলে না। যাদবপুরের হস্টেলগুলোয় তো আবাসিক বা পার্মানেন্ট গেস্ট নয় এমন লোকে থাকেই চিরকাল ।

    ছেলেটি দাবি করেছে ওই গ্রুপ পোস্টে যে সেই ফার্স্ট ইয়ারের ছেলেগুলোকে সে র‍্যাগিং থেকে বাঁচাতে চাওয়ায় ঝামেলা, অথচ এইটা সেই ছেলেটি না আগে নিজের স্ট্যাটাস মেসেজ এ বলেছে, না 'এই সময়' বলেছে ছেলেটি এইটা বলেছে । ছাত্রাদের মধ্যে একাংশের দাবি, ওই তাদেরকে র‍্যাগ করছিল, আর মানিক ছেলেটি হস্টেলের অ্যান্টি-র‍্যাগিং কমিটির মেম্বার, সে আটকাতে জাওয়া নিয়ে ঝামেলা। কিন্তু আমার তথ্যসূত্ররা একবার অমায় ডুবিয়েছে, তাই এবারে কনভিকশন নিয়ে বলতে পারছি না।
