    Regarding Shazia Ilmi's clip-Aam Aadmi Party does not believe in mixing politics & religion, neither does it endorse it. All our representatives should be careful in their choice of words so that there is no scope for misinterpretation.

    Here is the statement by Shazia Ilmi in response to the video clip:

    I wish to clarify the statement attributed to me regarding exhorting the Muslims to be more communal. Nothing can be farther from my intent and indeed my politics. It is quite clear from the tone and tenor of the conversation that I am using the word 'secular' and 'communal' in an ironic manner. And in an informal casual setting wherein a 80 second video clip purports to put context to a half hour conversation. The point was simply to say that the Muslim community has allowed itself to be used far too long by the so-called secular politics. It would be much better if the community were to turn to their real-life material interests, the so-called community interests like education, employment, etc. It should also be noted that I am making a plea to vote for a candidate who is not Muslim, and in the name of a leader who is not Muslim. I am shocked to see a statement like this can be distorted and misconstrued as communal or inciting hatred. My party and I have always stood against any form of communalism and shall continue to do so.

    Aam Aadmi Party would like to reiterate that the party does not believe in politics of communalism and is strictly against it. Neither will we evade or take lightly, concerns of AAP supporters and general public over such a serious issue. However, the fact that those who have brought this 80 second clip in public domain have not shared the rest of the video which can show the actual context, raises serious questions about the intentions behind the video clip. If they have really done this in public interest, we request them to share the full unclipped video or the link to download it in public and also send it to us at [email protected], so that the truth becomes clear between what is being attributed through the short clip and the response to it.

    The CPI(M) has all but withdrawn its candidate Hiralal Yadav, with the units of both the CPI and CPI(M) in Varanasi openly working for Aam Aadmi party on the ground. In fact the students body of the CPI(M) and the trade unions have all issued statements supporting not Yadav, but Kejriwal in Varanasi. CPI-ML has sent its students to work for AAP right from the beginning of the campaign.

    ..Why is it that a party like AAP catches the popular imagination in a way the Left hasn’t been able to?
    It is true AAP has won spectacular electoral success in its very first attempt in Delhi and that has helped catch the popular imagination elsewhere. In various phases in the past and even now, various sections of the Left have also caught the imagination of the people in terrains that are much more complex and difficult than the metropolitan milieu of Delhi. The question of catching the imagination and arousing the hopes and aspirations of the people must be viewed in the larger context of serving their interests and securing and expanding the rights of the people. AAP’s journey has just begun, its ability to serve the interests of the people and, more importantly, its ability and willingness to take on the well-entrenched structures and patterns of institutionalized oppression and injustice is yet to be tested.
    To be sure, the Left movement in the country is passing through a challenging phase of transition and reorientation following the decline of the CPI(M)-led model, whether in West Bengal or in national politics. The CPI(ML) and various mass organizations associated with it are playing an important role in advancing the democratic movement and upholding the revolutionary banner in a whole range of conditions and contexts.
    The rise of AAP at this juncture is surely an interesting development with lots of possibilities. As the battle against corporate plunder and corporate subversion of democracy intensifies, the revolutionary Left and AAP will hopefully assess their respective positions and explore possibilities of meaningful cooperation...

    আর কিছু না হোক, এই কালচরটা প্রবর্তনের জন্যই আপের সাধুবাদ প্রাপ্য। এটা যদি সব জায়গায় চালু করা যেত ! বিশেষতঃ পঃবংগে ! কিন্তু হবেনা। এত জায়গাতে আআপ লড়লো, কিন্তো পঃবঙ্গে প্রায় নন এক্সিস্টেন্ট। বড় দলগুলোর ক্ষমতা প্রদর্শন আর লুম্পেনগিরির কালচারে এর জন্য কোনো স্পেসই নেই।

    Some practice untouchability towards funded NGOs with others suspect them deeply even when compelled to rub shoulders with them for practical reasons. Ideo-political fight is necessary with those advocate solutions within the framework of Bretton Woods institutions' good governance and conflict resolution. But equally important is the understanding of complex ground reality where NGOs, at least their local functionaries who are part of peoples' movements or supportive to it. Not every reformist is imperialist or corporate agent. While some top guns with social work degrees enjoy corporate lifestyles and lobby for berth in government committees and social elite clubs, there are many examples where smaller NGOs or big NGO workers have graduated into non-indentured activists. But xenophobia and blanket judgment suit closed -door communities.
    মজা হল, এই অংশটা শেয়ার করাতে কিছু অতিবাম লোকজন কী খচে গেলেন ! এনজিও মার্কা কাজকম্মের প্রতি তাঁদের ঘৃণা মোদীর প্রতি ঘৃণার থেকে কোন অংশে কম না, তা শুধু হাবেভাবে বুঝিয়ে দিলেন না, রীতিমতম বলেকয়েই বোঝালেন ! তবেই বোঝো !

    কিন্তু এটাও ঘটনা, পরিবেশ হোক কি নারী বা দলিত জনজাতি নিয়েও যে অ্যাক্টিভিস্টরা কাজ করছেন, তাঁদের অনেকের মধ্যেও প্রায় একই শুচিবায়ুগ্রস্ততা আছে।

    Those are working for hunger-free India, demanding full implementation of the Forest Rights Act and similar laws, opposing nuclear power and championing environmental causes, marginal forces in labor movement, women's movement et al are also divided in numerous factions. Name any other sector of activism, the cacophony is so confusing that the ideological, factional and personal factors are often indistinguishable. Organizational drives stems more from the desire for expansion and consolidation of own fiefdom than the professed concerns for exploited and repressed communities. Decades of isolationist practices have created such a queer mindset that demigods ruling their respective roosts feel threatened whenever there is initiatives for collective move. For them, small is eternally beautiful.
