    মুখ্যসচিব জানিয়েছেন পুলিশ পাঠাতে কিছু সমস্যা রয়েছে, এলাকার পরিস্থিতি পুলিশ পাঠানোর পক্ষে অনুকূল ছিল না। নন্দীগ্রামে "অন্ধকার কেটে দিনের আলো ফোটার পরেও' পুলিশ কেন ঘটনাস্থলে যায়নি তার ব্যাখ্যা দিতে গিয়ে আইজি রাজ কানোরিয়া বলেন, আবার যাতে কোনও সংঘাত না হয়, সেই জন্য পুলিশ এলাকায় ঢোকেনি। (সূত্র : আনন্দবাজার)

    ব্যাঙ্গালোরে ব্রিগেড রোড আর রেসিডেন্সি রোডের ক্রশিংয়ে এখনও পর্যন্ত নন্দীগ্রাম ঘটনার প্রতিবাদে শামিল হয়েছেন বিভিন্ন প্রফেশন থেকে আসা জনা পনেরো জন। আজ রাত পর্যন্ত চলবে অবস্থান। গান কবিতার মাধ্যমে সেখানে চলছে প্রতিবাদ জানানো। ব্যাঙ্গালোরের কেউ যদি ইচ্ছুক থাকেন এই প্রতিবাদ অবস্থানে শামিল হতে, চলে যেতে পারেন এক্ষুনি।

    প্রতিবাদ, প্রতিবাদই, সে যত হাস্যকরই হোক, যত অবজ্ঞাতই হোক, যত অপরিণতই হোক, প্রতিবাদ করতে পারাটাই তো আসল। আমরা তো তা-ও পারি নি।

  • saa, নিরো শহরে আগুন লাগার সময় বেহালা বাজাচ্ছিলেন এবং নিরো দলবল জুটিয়ে শহরে আগুন লাগিয়ে এলেন। এই দুইয়ের মধ্যে তফাৎ তো আছেই। তবে কিনা উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই আগুন লাগল, নগর পুড়ল এবং থামানোর কোন চেষ্টাই হল না।

  • অর্পণ আমি তো আগেই এই কথা বলেছিলাম, গান্ধীজি থাকলে গোধরা দেখে চোখ ঢাকতেন লজ্জায়, আর এখন পবঙ্গে গোপালকৃষ্ণ গান্ধীর অবস্থাও তাই। স্বেচ্ছাচারিতার প্রতিবাদ করে তিনি হলেন অসাংবিধানিক, অনিরপেক্ষ। আর এই দুরাচারের প্রতিবাদ করেছেন বলে বাম শরিকরা হয়েছেন বিভীষণ। সিপিএম কোনো অপোজিশান সহ্য করেনা, তাই ছলে বলে কৌশলে-- গণতন্ত্রের হত্যা করে মুখে বড়ো বড়ো গরীবদরদী বুলি ফুটিয়ে--- যাক!

    ব্ল্যাংক কে--- বানামটা ফিল্ম, ফ্লিম নয়। দ্বিতীয়ত: বক্তব্যটা ঠিক পোষ্কারিত নয়। মানে কি কিছুই হয়নি নন্দীগ্রামে অথবা এমনটাতো হয়েই থাকে।

    তো এবারে ওর কোনো সিনেমা ছিল না লিস্টি তে। যেটা নেই সেটা লোকে তোলে কি করে কে জানে ?
    আর নন্দীগ্রামের ব্যপারে তো আগের বারেও পড়েছিলুম, গুরু তেই বেড়িয়েছিল কোনো এক সাংবাদিকের (!!) লেখা। সেই হাজার হাজার লোক কে মেরে ফেলে দেওয়ার গপ্প। তাই এসব নিয়ে আর মন্তব্য করার কিছুই নেই।
    আশ্চর্য ভাবে গনতন্ত্রের গলা তখন ই শোনা যায়, যখন নিজের রঙের ওপর হাত ওঠে। কদিন আগে নন্দীগ্রামে মারা যাওয়া মানস মাস্টার, কিছুদিন ধরে মাঝেই মাঝেই খুন হওয়া সিপিএমের লোক গুলোর জন্য এই থ্রেড কক্ষনো জ্যান্ত হয় না।

  • আজ্ঞে বাইনারি বাবু, আপনে বোধ্‌হয় ওর্কুটের মত তুচ্ছ জিনিস পত্রে নেই। আমাদের মত হাতে প্রচুর সময় ওয়ালা লোকেরা এই ঘটনার বেশ কিছুদিন আগে থেকেই সিপিএমের ঘোষিত ক্যাডার/সমর্থক ইত্যাদিদের বাণী শুনছি - "আর চার দিন, আর তিনদিন এইবার হবে..... এইবার দেখা যাবে" ইত্যাদি। জয়দেব বাবু আছেন না, যিনি কবিতা লিখে থাকেন এসব তাঁর শ্রী মুখ নিসৃত বাণী। তবে ক্যাডাররা যা আজ জানে নেতারা দু মাস বাদে জানবে এতে আমি অবাক হইনে। এমনকি বলে বলে ঘোষণা করলেও তারা নাই জানতে পারেন।

  • রিডিফের খবরটাতে ৭০ লিখেছে, কিন্তু STAR ANAND আর অন্য দুটি চ্যানেল দেখালো ৯১/৯৩ জন।

    পুলিশ পটাপট তোলে নি, বেধড়ক পিটিয়ে তুলেছে। সেগুলো গুরু-র তৈরী নয়, অন্যস্বরের সৌমিত্র বসুর খবরও নয়,... স্টার আনন্দ, কলকাতা টিভি আর তারা-র ছবি।

    তবে বিজ্ঞজন ও বিদ্বজনেরা হয়ত ওই ছবিগুলো টালিগঞ্জের শুটিং বলতে পারেন। যেরকম আগে বলেছিলেন।

    শুধু পছন্দের ওয়েবসাইটের ছবিগুলো প্র(কৃত)গতিশীল চিত্র।

    কিছুদিন আগেই অনিন্দ্য জানার রিপোর্টের লিঙ্ক দেখেছিলাম জনৈকের বক্তব্যে। আজ এঁরা ওই কাগজের কোন লিঙ্ক দিচ্ছেন না কেন।

    এর পর কি PDর PDF পড়বো আমরা?

    এটা ভবিষ্যৎবাণী হিসেবেও ধরতে পারা যায়।

  • তপন ঘোষ আর সুকুর আলিকে ছোট আঙ্গারিয়ার গণহত্যা কেসে সিবিআই বহুদিন ধরে খুঁজছে এবং রাজ্য পুলিশের সহায়তা ছাড়া তাদের যে ধরা যাবেনা সেকথাও জানিয়ে দিয়েছিল। যদিও দলের জোনাল সম্মেলনে বহুবার দেখা গিয়েছে তাদের।

    একথা সৌমিত্র বসু জানাননি। যে "বাজারি' পত্রিকার নিরপেক্ষতা প্রগতি নামের সাইটটির নিরপেক্ষতার সঙ্গে তুলনীয় বলে লেখা হয়েছিল এই থ্রেডে, তার খবর।

    ইঁদুরের মত লড়াই, মহিলা আর শিশুদের এগিয়ে দিয়ে? খাম্মাম এত তাড়াতাড়ি ভুলে গেলেন? আর সেই তেভাগা আন্দোলন? চন্দনপিড়ি গ্রামের অহল্যা নামের শহীদ মাকে নিয়ে আবেগঘন যে গান লেখা হয়েছিল? এই সাইটের নন্দীগ্রাম নিয়েই কোন এক থ্রেডে যার আলোচনা হয়েছিল।

    ও আপনার মতে তো বাকি থ্রেডগুলি অত্যন্ত জটিল। আর "সুধু' এবং "সুধুই' ১৪ ই মার্চের পরের কথা বলতে আগ্রহী।

  • প্রগতি চালান মোটামুটি দুইজন - শৈবাল বিষ্ণু এবং শাক্যজিত ভট্টাচার্য়্য। শৈবালকে অনেকেরই মনে থাকার কথা, ঈশানের ওর্কূট স্ক্র্যাপে তার মধুরভাষণের সূত্রে। তো এতে কোনো প্রবলেম নেই। এও প্রবলেম নেই যে এঁরা দুজনেই ঘোষিত সিপিএম কর্মী। প্রবলেম নেই যে এই সাইটে যাঁরা লেখেন তাঁরা অনেকেই গণশক্তি এবং আজকালে লেখেন। প:ব: নিয়ে বাদবাদি লেখা মোটামুটি আসে পিপলস ডেমোক্রাসি থেকে। আর প:ব:র বাইরে গেলে তো সিপিএমের চেয়ে বড় বন্ধু আর নাই। তো এসবই চলে, এও চলে ঠিক যেমন একই শ্যাম্পু একবার for dry hair, একবার for undernourished hair এবং আরো একবার for oily hair বলেই বিক্রি হয় সেরকমই শুধু গণশক্তির খবর গণশক্তিতে বেরোলে লোকে এমন বজ্জাত হয়েছে কিছুতেই শোনেনা। এমনকি আজকাল কোট করলেও লোকে ট্যারা চোখে তাকায়। তাই একই ভাষ্য একটু অন্য ঠোঙ্গায় পরিবেশন না করলে লোকে কিছুদিন অন্তত: খাবে কি করে! যে খবর আর কোথাও নেই, তা তো এখানেই পেতে হবে! এসবেই আমার কোনো প্রবলেম ছিলনা শুধু যদিনা এই নিরপেক্ষ নিরপেক্ষ খেলাটা লোকেরা খেলবার চেষ্টা করত।

  • বড় মন খারাপ হয়ে যাচ্ছে নন্দীগ্রাম নিয়ে যা হচ্ছে চারদিকে। কত লোক মারা যাচ্ছে, কত লোক কষ্টে দিন কাটাচ্ছে। বাংলা বন্ধ/ অচল- দিনের পর দিন।একটা অদ্ভুত নৈরাজ্য। আমরা যেন থামতে ভুলে গেছি। কেউ একটু জায়গা ছাড়ছে না! কোথায় যাচ্ছি আমরা জানিনা, কবে থামবে জানিনা, আরো কত জন মারা যাবেন- তারপর? দোষারোপ চলছেই। কারোর যেন মেটানোর সদিচ্ছাই নেই। যেন এব্যাপার জিইয়ে রাখতে পারলেই লাভ। সবাই ঘোলা জলে মাছ ধরতে চাইছে!!
    আমি অস্বীকার করবনা বুদ্ধদেব ভট্টাচার্জকে কোথায় একটা জায়গায় পরিষ্কার মানুষ হিসেবে ভাবতাম, যেটা হত/হয় না সিপিএম সম্পর্কে। নন্দীগ্রামে যা শুরুতে হয়েছিল (রাস্তা কাটা/ পুলিশ-বিডিও-সরকারী কাজ কারবার বন্ধ করে দেওয়া= মুক্তাঞ্চল) তা শুরুতেই শক্তহাতে, দ্রুত মোকাবিলা করলেন না কেন? সেটাকে বাড়তে দিলেন (তখন বুদ্ধিজীবীরা চুপ ছিলেন)- তারপর যেটা করলেন/ করালেন/ করতে দিলেন সেটা আরো জঘন্য- ১৪ই মার্চ!
    তারপর যেভাবে ড্যামেজ ক®¾ট্রালের চেষ্টা করেছেন সেটা আমার মোটা মাথায় যা ঢোকে, এই পরিস্থিতিতে হয়ত সব থেকে ভালো সমাধান- নন্দীগ্রামে কেমিক্যাল হাব না করার ঘোষনা। দেরীতে হলেও আর্থিক ক্ষতিপূরণ, দোষীদের শাস্তি। যেটা আমার মাথায় ঢোকেনা তখনই কেন সব চুকেবুকে গেলনা। মুক্তাঞ্চল জিইয়ে থাকল। তখনও মানুষ মরেছে, বাড়ীছাড়া হয়েছেন। তখনও প্রতীবাদী কন্ঠ চুপ। যেন পুনর্দখল অপরাধ, দখলটা নয়। প্রান তো মানুষের যাচ্ছে। আমরা শুধু সিলেক্টিভ ভাবে চ্যাঁচাব!
    এরপরে বুদ্ধদেব যা করলেন, উদাহরন খুব বেশীদিনের পুরনো নয়।না হয় ধর্মের ভিত্তিতে নয়। প্রশাসনকে নিষ্ক্রিয় করে রেখে ক্যাডার দিয়ে মানুষ পেটানো- আমরা বলেছি অন্যরাজ্যে স্টেটস্পন্সর্ড টেররিজম। বলা হল কেন্দ্রীয় বাহিনী নামানো হবে।কেন এত দেরী হচ্ছে? তলে তলে এই কান্ড করার তাল? মমতাও বুঝি সেটা ধরতে পারেননি।কেন্দ্রের গুরুত্বপুর্ণ মন্ত্রী প্রিয়রঞ্জন কেন এর বিরোধিতা করলেন। মাথায় ঢোকেনা। মেধা এবংঅন্যরা গেলেই পরিস্থিতি ঘোরালো হয়। স্ট্র্যাটেজিক সময়ে সময়েই তাঁকে এরাজ্যে আসতে হবে? নন্দীগ্রামেই? কেন- এখানে তো সেজ আর হচ্ছেনা? এখানে তাঁর কিছু গুনগ্রাহীই কি মোক্ষম মোক্ষম সময় তাঁকে আনান? তিনি এলেই ঝামেলা, ঝামেলা হলেই প্রচার। আর মমতা! দুটি প্রাণও প্রাণ, তবু দুইকে দুশ! ফাঁকা খোল দেখিয়ে বলেন আমায় গুলি করলগো! এতবার পদত্যাগ করলেন? ঠিকভাবে করলেই পারেন! চিরকুটে লিখে আর নেমপ্যাডে লিখে পদত্যাগ হয়না (এক লাইনের এক ফর্ম ভরতে হয়) তা আপনার চেয়ে ভালো কে জানে? আপনিতো পদত্যাগ করতে চাননা, প্রচার চান। আপনি এখন বড্ড শর্ট অব আইডিয়াজ, সেই পদত্যাগ, সেই বন্ধ। নন্দীগ্রামেও, ভুমিরক্ষা প্রতিরোধ কমিটিতেও আপনি বাহুল্য।
    মানুষের প্রানের দাম আর কানাকড়ি থাকল না। দক্ষিনবঙ্গের মানুষ আবার কবে স্বাভাবিক জীবনে ফিরবেন। এলাকা দখলের ফয়দা, প্রচারের ফয়দা, রাজনৈতিক ফয়দাবাজী আর কত দিন চলবে? পঞ্চায়েত ভোট পর্যন্ত? আমরা অতদিন অপেক্ষা করতে পারবনা। পুলিশ নামুক আর কেন্দীয় বাহিনীই নামুক- সব অস্ত্র বজেয়াপ্ত হোক, রাস্তা সারানো হোক, স্কুল খুলুক। এক্ষুনি। বন্ধ হোক বন্ধ। কাদাছোঁড়াছুঁড়িও। প্রতিবাদ করব সমস্ত খুনকে, সব সন্ত্রাসকে, রং নির্বিশেষে। অনেক হল- আর নয়।

  • ভেবেছিলাম বুদ্ধদেব বাবু পশ্চিমবঙ্গকে পরিবর্তন করতে পারবেন। কিন্তু তিরিশ বছর ধরে যে জিনিষ চালিয়েছে কাডরে বাহিনী, সেটারই পরিনতি নন্দিগ্রাম। এরা সত্যিই স্টালিন আর মাওএর হত্যালীলার উত্তরাধিকারী। দু:খের বিষয়, যখন সারা ভারত এগিয়ে চলেছে আর সারা পৃথিবী কমিউনিজমকে একটা বস্তা পচা অর্থনীতি বলে নর্দমায় ফেলেছে, তখন পশ্চিমবঙ্গের তথাকথিত বুদ্ধিজীবিরা বলছেন, আমরা এদের গদিতে এনেছিলাম । এরা যে এরকম করবে কি করে বুঝব ?
    এই বুদ্ধিজীবিরা হয় সুবিধাবাদী বা নির্বোধ। পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মানুষ এর পরেও যদি কমিউনিস্টদের গদিতে বসান, তবে বলব তাঁরা এই সন্ত্রাস deserve করেন।
    এখনো আমার মনে হয় বুদ্ধদেব বাবু scapegoat । আসল শয়তান হল, কারাট, ইয়েচুরি এবং সিপিএমের কলকাতা , জেলা ও গ্রাম স্তরের মাফিয়া বসেরা যাঁদের অনেকের নাম আমরা জানি।

    ২) পুরুলিয়ায় অবশ্য সেই নিরস্ত্র মানুষকে মাইনের উপর বসিয়ে হত্যা করা হয়, সিপিএম করার অপরাধে, বুদ্ধিজীবিরা তখন কথায় থাকেন, বোঝা মুশকিল।

    The challenge of Nandigram

    Three days after the Left Front in West Bengal appealed for peace and for the “safe and secure return” to villages in the Nandigram area of all people forced to live outside, and in the aftermath of the beginning of peace talks at the local level, violence has erupted again in this area of rural West Bengal. The Maoists have resumed their armed campaign of terror; working people have been injured and killed in political violence; and, ever-willing to give chaos a chance, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has been reported as saying that her party would “paralyse West Bengal” indefinitely. For 11 months, the campaign spearheaded by the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC, or “Committee to Prevent Eviction from Land”) has brought administration and development work to a halt, and has sought to cut the area off from government and state power. According to one estimate, 15,000 children could not be given pulse polio doses; Rs.2 crore worth of expenditure on health infrastructure has had to be abandoned; health facilities have been unable to function; and Rs.2 crore worth of investment on electrification could not be made. People of the region, particularly peasant families owing allegiance to the Left Front, were systematically evicted from their homes and villages, with the number of refugees swelling to 3,500.

    In February 2007, the government announced that the chemical hub would not be established in Nandigram. Even that announcement brought no respite. On the contrary, the forced withdrawal of the police from certain areas provided a new opportunity for the Maoists to set up an armed presence in the region, and for the opportunist alliance represented by the BUPC to regroup and continue their campaign of violence and externment, and of preventing the administration from functioning. No government worth the name can stand aside when people are indefinitely denied the right to occupy their homes and pursue their livelihoods in peace, and, when finally the internal refugees seek to return to their homes, their paths are blocked by arms and landmines. The Central government, which depends on the Left for survival, has eventually responded to the request by the Government of West Bengal by releasing a battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force for deployment in the Nandigram region. Intelligent and speedy deployment of these paramilitary forces can contribute to the resumption of peace directly by means of their armed presence and, more importantly, as a confidence-building measure among the people. This newspaper has editorialised on the part played by political slowness in responding to a tricky situation as well as administrative mishandling of a volatile situation in the tragedy of Nandigram in March 2007. But once the State government made it absolutely clear that the chemical hub would not be established in Nandigram, what raison d’etre could exist for the disruptive activities of the BUPC and the continuing violence of the opposition in West Bengal? What is now manifest is that the peace process in Nandigram has its determined enemies.

    The role of Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi has, for a second time, come under the spotlight. In March 2007, he clearly stepped out of line in publicly airing his philosophical and tactical differences with the State government over Nandigram. He does not seem to have learnt any lessons from that experience and, in fact, his latest speaking out of line has had the effect of adding fuel to the flames. Let us concede that Nandigram represented a situation where the moral urge not to remain silent came into conflict with the restraints imposed by the constitutional office. Yet, of the restraints imposed by the office, there would seem to be little doubt, and a public statement critical of the government’s handling of the issue could not have been made without transgressing them. The Hindu has consistently regarded this as a major question of principle in the constitutional realm. The classic 1867 exposition of the role of the British monarch by Walter Bagehot applies equally to the office of the President and the Governor: “To state the matter shortly, the Sovereign has, under a constitutional monarchy such as ours, three rights — the right to be consulted, the right to encourage, the right to warn. And a king of great sense and sagacity would want no others. He would find that his having no others would enable him to use these with singular effect.” The right to advise and the right to warn are to be exercised in private and in confidence, and not through public statements. This restraint required of the head of state is not a mere constitutional formality but is based on sound democratic principles. In the first place, the head of state must not, through statements critical of its functioning, place himself or herself in conflict with the representative government, which has a greater democratic legitimacy. Secondly, the head of state should appear non-partisan and remain above the fray when controversial and divisive questions are being debated in the political sphere, and avoid any public statements that could give comfort to one side or the other. The Governor’s public statements on Nandigram both challenged the wisdom of the government’s approach and came down on the side of the critics of its action. Further, Mr. Gandhi laid himself open to the charge of remaining silent when the supporters of the Left Front were at the receiving end. His conduct through this crisis has been constitutionally indefensible. Yet the Left Front government must not get distracted by this. Its top priorities must be to re-establish peace, ensure human security, and resume development work in Nandigram. The CPI(M) has a special responsibility in this regard — among other things, to be manifestly fair in its dealings on the ground, and to restrain its cadre from any campaign of reprisal.

    Curiouser and curiouser! As the refugees are going back home and the prospect of life returning to normalcy is getting brighter day-by-day, the old cronies are coming back in action and trying their level best to present their brightest possible show. Let’s see what they have got to say.

    The foremost among them is a celebrity social worker much adored by the paparazzi. Wherever she goes, the media follows. She was there in January when the trouble was just brewing. She was there to provide her much-valued moral support. When the movement gained momentum she disappeared from the scene. In the last eight or nine months she could not find time for Nandigram. Her hands were too full. She was never worried about the seemingly endless mayhem that her inspired votaries had let loose in the zone. But now when the evicted people are returning home the prick of her conscience has driven her back to Nandigram. That’s quite expected. But the faux pas lies elsewhere.

    It so happened today afternoon that on her way to Nandigram people who were allegedly CPIM followers attacked her convoy. She came back fuming and teed off and said she did not expect such atrocity from a left party. Her companions, namely Debaprasad Sarkar MLA SUCI, Sujat Bhadra the ubiquitous human rights activist, Tarun Naskar the one and only teacher leader of SUC and some other people who have still not made it to the hall of fame also vented their tirade in the loudest voice possible.

    The CPIM state secretariat immediately condemned the assault unequivocally and added that people of the area are not really very enthusiastic about her visit for the simple reason that from their past experience they perceive her presence as another instigation of trouble and breach of peace. The state leadership also noted ruefully that in the intermediate period she never bothered to get acquainted with the plight of the thousands of helpless refugees who spent months in those hellish relief shelters at Khejuri. That doesn’t speak well of her neutrality, the state secretariat further commented.

    But the indomitable social worker was unfazed .She did not miss the opportunity to appear on screen NDTV to face the young CPIM leader from Delhi, Mr. Prasenjit Bose. As she went about in her usual way about the disaster being spelt out by the CPIM in Bengal in the name of industrialization, Bose patiently waited for a chance. And when his turn came he mildly put forward a straight question. Does she accept the fact that over 1500 CPIM activists and left supporters had to spend the last 11 months in makeshift camps with their wives and children? At once Medhaji went pale. All her former eloquence was gone as she stammered incoherently all the while. Her logic was that the assailants, the leaders of the movement too belonged to CPIM once upon a time. As if turncoats should not be blamed for their hooliganism and barbarity.

    Well done Bose, I said in my mind. You have exposed the one-sidedness of her celebrated humanism, and in time too.

    When Medhaji comes, can our own Mahaswetadi, our celebrated Magsaysay awardee stay behind? In a telephonic interview with a TV channel she has come up with the most ingenious idea of the week. In her opinion the happenings in Nandigram are parts of a clever ploy to distract public attention from the Rizwan incident, which has purportedly put the Left Front Government on the back foot. That is, the refugees are braving all odds just to stage a carefully plotted play! A true intellectual comment, one must say! And of course she has not been forgetful about her pet demand of resignation of the chief minister. She dithered a wee bit, but did not forget to inform the viewers that her first floor flat in Golf Green (incidentally, one of the most classy areas of the city) is full of relief materials for the people of Nandigram. At first I wondered whom she meant by people, but gave up as soon as I found it was beyond me to reach her level of intellectuality.

    The minor performers also contributed to the best of their ability. Shaonli Mitra who staged Poshu Khamar (the Bengali rendering of the illustrious anti-communist propaganda Orwellian Animal Farm) to express her solidarity with the movement, tried to put forward her best histrionic skills along with her best collection of weirdest lies to establish that one cannot simply rely on the Left Front Government to restore normalcy. She again brought up the splendidly concocted story of infanticide on 14 March, in spite of knowing fully well that not a single child was missing in the entire block. She artistically frowned, scowled and paused but it could be clearly seen that she had lost her steam. The people’s spirited march back home was something she could never guess to happen. Kaushik Sen , the young thespian was with her too. But I think he does not deserve special mention as he only mouthed the headlines of the anti-left media. Of course it hurt me to see him insult veteran communist leaders of the state but I found him a totally confused man whose hormones were getting better of his senses.

    Last but not the least, I had a glimpse of bare- bodied Balladeer Gadar on NDTV defending the indefensible. The anchor of the show asked him specifically why the movement persisted even after the Chief Minister asserted in the assembly and in public that no land is going to be acquired in Nandigram and what was the purpose of keeping the BUPC alive? Gadar hemmed and hawed and said,” How can people rely on the government’s promise?” A truly revolutionary remark, by all means. It reminds me of the story I heard in my boyhood days of an equally venerable man. He was a government clerk and a petitioner approached his desk at noon to find him apparently dozing away.

    “Sir, sir!” the petitioner said, “shall I come back after a while?”

    “Of course you should”, replied the tired voice, “can’t you see I’m sleeping?”

    The one who told me the story also added a moral. The moral was – “you can wake up anyone on earth but never this one.”

    Jokes apart, we are seriously worried. Worried because people like Gadar are trying to pose as if they are seriously concerned by the fact that thousands of poor hapless desperate people are trying to get back home in Nandigram after 11 months. Worried because a sensible person like Aparnadi (Actress and film maker, Aparna Sen) seems to be upset by the brightening hope that peace is ultimately going to return to the strife-torn zone. Interestingly her plan to boycott the Kolkata Film Festival found immediate support from Bratya Bosu, the noted plagiarist playwright well known for his anti-left sympathies and Tapas Pal, the Trinomool MLA.

    It is for the sake of the right thinking individuals that we need to make the position of CPIM on Nandigram perfectly clear:

    a. No chemical hub will be set up at Nandigram. The question of land acquisition does not arise.

    b. We condemn the happenings of 14 March.

    c. Most of the police officers in charge of the police action on 14th March have been transferred. They will be penalized if the administrative or judicial enquiries find them guilty.

    d. The heirs of each of the dead will be given a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs.

    The compensation could have been declared much earlier but the interested parties kept demurring about the issues. At a meeting organized about two months back at the DIG level, in presence of the local trinomool leader Subhendu Adhikary and the BUPC representatives four points were raised by the administration to formulate a draft for lasting peace in the region:

    1. Compensation for the families of the people killed.

    2. Interim transfer of the police officers, final decision to be taken after the enquiry reports comes out.

    3. The criminal cases instituted against people may be reviewed. But cases of rape, murder and similar offences shall continue.

    4. All the evicted people would return home.

    But the last point was not acceptable to them. And the meeting remained inconclusive. So the responsibility of procrastination lies with the BUPC and Trinomool Congress.

    e. We are not in favour of retaliation of any kind. We appeal to all parties to allow people of all political creeds to return home peacefully so that normality can be restored as soon as possible. The focus should first be on to bring the ousted locals back to their homes. Those who are terming this return as “offensive” have a confused vocabulary. People returning to their own home and hearth cannot be termed as intruders or encroachers in any civilized tongue. It’s not a case of regaining control. It’s simply the restitution of the basic fundamental human right to stay in one’s own home- the abrogation of which did not unfortunately catch the notice of many an intellectual of repute

    f. The all-party meetings at the local level have started. This would expedite the peace process. All the parties are now interested in having police camps in the area. It may be recalled that earlier the BUPC, TMC and even some of the left allies objected to the police camps. We welcome this development because we want the rule of law to be restored.

    g. Large parts of Nandigram had remained areas of complete anarchy for months. Panchayets should start working immediately and restart the process of development work. Crores of government funds remain unutilized. People need to get the basic amenities they deserve.

    h. It is unfortunate that Nandigram was being projected as a land issue by some individuals and groups to deliberately cover the presence of Maoist rebels who were aiming at 'the physical elimination of CPIM sympathisisers whom they consider to be their principal enemy. They have gathered sophisticated arms, ammunitions and even landmines to carry forward their holy armed struggle against the state at Nandigram. They are the chief deterrent in the peace process.     ওরে সিপিএমের চামচাগুলো, তোদের লোকগুলোকে যারা মাইন বসিয়ে মেরেছিল, যারা অস্ত্র দেখিয়ে ঘরছাড়া করেছিল, তাদের একটাকেও মারতে পেরেছিস? সেদিন তোরা গলা ফাটাতে পেরেছিলি? সেদিন কাউকে পাশে নেবার রাজনৈতিক চাল চালতে পেরেছিলি? পারিস নি। আসল অপরাধীদের মরতে না পেরে এলাকা দখলের নামে কেবল নিরপরাধ মানুষকেই মেরেছিস তোরা, সরকারি প্রতিরক্ষার আড়ালে, পুলিশের ড্রেস আর পায়ে হাওয়াই চটি পরে।

    তা হলে আর নরেন মোদীকে দুষি কেন? কিছু অপরাধী একটা কম্পার্টমেন্ট জোড়া লোককে জ্যান্ত জ্বালিয়ে দিল, তাদের ধরা গেল না, তাই সরকার দল-কে-দল মুসলমান জ্বালিয়ে পুড়িয়ে রেপ করে শেষ করে দিল। দ্যাখ কেমন লাগে। এই তো সরকারের শাসন! রুল অফ ল'। ওরা মেরেছে, তাই আমরাও মারব। পুলিশ ফুলিশ বুলশিট!

    আইন না মানা সাইকেল মোটরবাইক অটোরিক্সার দাপটে যখন বাস তার নিজের লেন ধরে চলতে পারে না, তখন কি "দ্যাখ কেমন লাগে' বলে বাস ইচ্ছে করে পিষে দিয়ে বেরিয়ে যেতে পারে তাদের?
